The orphan children at the Ezweni School draw a better future

Social motivation underlies KPMG Meijburg & Co’s investment in projects that take the future of society and the environment into account. Because we market valuable expertise, we feel that the projects we choose must closely reflect the philosophy underpinning our business practice. As a knowledge organization, KPMG Meijburg & Co knows the value of good and accessible education for everyone, everywhere. A logical corollary of this approach is our keen interest in educational projects both at home and abroad. As in 2010, this year we will also be linking KPMG Meijburg & Co’s Christmas wishes to our clients and relations with our sponsoring of the Ezweni Primary and High School. This year, we will specifically support the orphan children at the Ezweni School so that they have the opportunity to gain an education and a brighter future.

What has been achieved?
There is a serious lack of educational opportunities in Sabi Sabi, an area in South Africa with which KPMG Meijburg has a special relationship. We visit Sabi Sabi each year during the KPMG Meijburg Business Course, and are always given a warm welcome by the local population. It was therefore an obvious choice to set up an educational project there. KPMG Meijburg & Co has long supported the Ezweni School both financially and with manpower, as a result of which we have been able to accomplish the following:

Toilet facilities were built and a water supply was installed at the location of both the Primary and the High School. New classrooms were built and supplied with brand new school desks for the pupils. To ensure the safety of the pupils, a fence was erected around the High School. This created room for a sports field. Meijburg donated new sportswear and sports equipment, thereby enabling the children to play to their heart’s content. Teaching materials that meet all current educational standards were also purchased. There is still a lot of work to be done in the years to come, and we have decided, as organization, to continue to support the children of the Ezweni School.
