Niels is primarily involved in providing international tax advice to financial institutions, in particular banks, both in the Netherlands and abroad. For the most part, this advice concerns cross-border financing and investment transactions. He also advises parties active in the Dutch mortgage market, as well as hedge funds and infrastructure funds located in the Netherlands and abroad.

Niels is a member of the Financial Services market group. He is head of Financial Services Tax and Bank Tax, and represents Meijburg & Co in the KPMG Global Financial Services and Bank Tax Group.

Niels is also involved with generating and developing cross-border tax planning ideas. From 2007-2010 Niels authored the chapter on the participation exemption in NederlandseDocumentatieFiscaalRecht (NDFR).
