Global family business report 2026

Facing into the future, confident yet cautious

Family businesses remain resilient and look to the future with confidence. The KPMG Global Family Business Report 2026 reveals that 83% of family business leaders have a clear growth strategy in place, while 79% report strong alignment between the family and business leadership. At the same time, nearly 60% expect growth to become more challenging in the years ahead.

The report shows that family businesses are at a pivotal turning point. Many organisations expect to transition by 2035 from a family-led business to a professionally managed organisation, while retaining family ownership and oversight through a board or governing council. Artificial intelligence (AI), talent attraction, cybersecurity, succession planning and risk management are high on the agenda. While AI adoption continues to increase, governance and risk frameworks often lag behind these developments.

The most successful family businesses will be those that combine the strengths of family ownership with strong governance, professional leadership and targeted investments in people, technology and resilience.
